Do you dislike wasting money on a costume that you’ll only wear once? Are you on a budget and don’t want to spend money on an expensive costume? No worries! Here are four ideas for inexpensive, do-it-yourself costumes that are also easy to make.

SNAPCHAT FILTER PHOTO

Get a piece of yellow poster board and cut the Snapchat ghost shape in the middle. The cutout should be large enough to showcase your face. Next, draw random black dots around the ghost to mimic the Snapchat look. Next, pick a filter that you’re fond of and apply your makeup accordingly. For example, if you like the animal filters, make some dog ears and use makeup to turn your nose into a canine’s snout.

BATH PUFF

For this costume, you’ll need to purchase colorful tulle (save money by looking first in the remnants section) from a fabric store. Then, bunch it together and sew or pin it to a strapless dress or a tunic-length t-shirt. Add a string to your costume to imitate the one on a bath puff.

MEN IN BLACK

If you have a black suit (or know where to borrow one), a black tie, and shades, you’ve got yourself a Men in Black costume. Wear a single earbud and tuck the other end away in your suit. Or if you’d rather be a Blues Brother, top your costume with a fedora, instead.

JELLYFISH

Purchase a white or clear dome-shaped umbrella for the main body of the jellyfish. For tentacles, add pretty holographic or fabric ribbon with a glue gun to the underside of the umbrella. Strips of bubble wrap can also be used as legs. If you’d prefer, you can also wrap the entire umbrella in a gauzy material and then secure it on the underside with a safety pin. You can then glue or sew on the “legs.” Wear something white or lacy to match the jellyfish vibe.
