One of the joys of a new apartment is entertaining your friends and family. And what party theme is more beloved or more fun than a Polynesian luau? For a reasonable price, you can turn your patio, balcony or living room into a tropical paradise. Here's how:

How to create a Polynesian-themed oasis for your next party

  • Lighting. String lights and paper lampshades around LED lights can give your Polynesian-themed party a warm and festive glow. Use them to highlight different areas of the party, such as the food station, dance floor or bar. You can also find battery-powered tiki torches and lanterns that give you the look of candles without having to worry about anything catching on fire.
  • Decor. The adage "less is more" doesn't really apply to a Polynesian-themed party. This type of decor can be as "over the top" as you'd like, with silk-flower leis for hosts and guests, grass table skirts for serving tables, little umbrellas for drinks and/or cardboard or inflatable palm trees for accents.
  • Food and drink. Traditional Polynesian food combines the cuisines of Asia, Hawaii and other Pacific Islands. Popular foods include pineapple, fried rice, salmon with teriyaki sauce, mahi mahi (baked or grilled) and potato salad. Desserts include pineapple upside down cake, coconut pie and/or macadamia nut cream pie. For drinks, make Mai Tais and Blue Hawaiians. You can even serve them in hollowed-out coconuts. Line your serving platters with banana leaves and use pineapple and other tropical fruit slices plus edible flowers as garnish.
  • Music. Evoke the feel of the islands at your party with traditional Hawaiian and/or Polynesian music. Most streaming music services have Hawaiian music channels. Hook your speakers up to YouTube and check out their myriad of luau music choices.

Entertaining your family and friends in your new apartment is fun. You can add to the festive atmosphere with the right Polynesian lighting, decor, food and music. To learn more about renting quality, affordable Northridge, California, apartments, contact us today at (866) 796-2183.
