For just about everyone, setting and accomplishing goals is easier said than done. Now that we’re well into the new year, you should take a few steps to ensure that you continue to stay on track when it comes to your resolutions. Here are a few tips that will help you keep your New Year’s resolutions.
1. CREATE A SCHEDULE
One way that you can prevent your New Year’s resolutions from going to the wayside is by creating a schedule. Figure out a way to break up your resolutions into small and regular tasks and schedule them on your calendar and digital planner. For example, if your goal is to get into shape, you should schedule to go to the gym for one hour after work every Tuesday and Thursday.
Creating a schedule will help you start small with the goals that you set. Many people set goals that can seem daunting and impossible to achieve. However, if you break up an overarching resolution into smaller goals, you’ll find it easier to achieve the resolution.
2. TRACK YOUR PROGRESS
Many people get discouraged if they don’t see much progress after a few weeks of working toward their resolutions. Therefore, you need to have a system in place that will make it easy for you to track your progress in a visible manner. For example, if your goal is to lose weight, you can weigh yourself every two weeks to see how much progress you’ve made. Seeing how far you have come since the new year will make it easier to stay motivated.
3. MAKE IT FUN
Contrary to popular belief, achieving a New Year’s resolution doesn’t have to be boring or difficult. The more fun you inject into the process, the more likely you will achieve your goal. Depending on the goal, you may have to do a lot of experimentation to figure out what works best for you. For example, if your goal is to get into shape, you may prefer playing tennis to doing elliptical workouts day in and day out.
If you want to achieve your New Year’s resolutions, you need to have a system in place to stay on track. Consider reaching out to others in your community to keep each other accountable.
