Make gift giving special this year with a DIY gift that everyone on your list will love. These simple craft ideas for gifts are simple enough that you can make them in your kitchen or living room in our apartments in Northridge, with just a few inexpensive supplies.
APPLIQUE SOAPS
Here’s a beautiful gift that everyone can use!
Supplies:
Mod Podge (from a craft store)
Plain or scented bar soaps (flat sided soaps work best)
Beautiful images cut out from your favorite magazines
Paintbrush (inexpensive craft brush will do)
Scissors
Directions:
1. Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge on one side of the soap.
2. Lay the image on top of the Mod Podge.
3. Apply a second coating of Mod Podge on top of the image.
4. Let dry for 24 hours.
5. Wrap the soap in decorative tissue and tie with a pretty ribbon!
HAND-PAINTED MUGS
Your gift recipient will think of you with every sip!
Supplies:
Plain white or colored mugs
Paint markers in various colors and sizes (from a craft store)
Directions:
1. Clean and dry the mugs.
2. Use the paint markers to paint decorative designs, such as holiday trees, snowballs or another design. (You can even use a template if you want!)
3. Cure the painted mugs in your oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Be sure to put the mugs in when the oven is cool and allow the temperature to rise slowly. Allow 72 hours to pass before using the mug.
4. Place mugs in a box and wrap for holiday gift giving!
TILE COASTERS
Give these in sets of four and tie with a beautiful ribbon!
Supplies:
Plain white ceramic tiles (from the hardware store)
Mod Podge
Scrapbook paper sheets (from the craft store)
Paintbrush (craft brush will work)
Felt pieces
Glue
Ruler
Scissors
Directions:
1. Cut the scrapbook sheets into squares, about an 8th of an inch smaller than the tiles.
2. Brush a thin layer of Mod Podge on the top of the tile.
3. Center the scrapbook paper onto the tile.
4. Coat the top of the scrapbook paper with another layer of Mod Podge.
5. Glue the felt piece onto the bottom of the tile.
6. Stack up four tiles and secure them with decorative twine or heavy ribbon for a DIY gift anyone will appreciate!
